Gigantic UFO is a boss that appears in Stage 3-3 "Self Organization."

Appearance[]

The Gigantic UFO is a massive flying saucer visually similar to the UFOs that appear on the cabinet art of Space Invaders. Unlike to previous UFOs such as Satoru UFO, or UFO, Gigantic UFO outsmarts the size of the previous two UFO-like ships. Gigantic UFO is seen different from both 2D and 3D view, given the rearrangement of the laser cannons, regular gunfire, and tractor beam.

Gigan

Name[]

Its a large UFO.

Behavior[]

Gigantic UFO during its introduction in Stage 3-3 will flyby the player and would immediately attack when the stage boss appears again. In the same level/2D levels Gigantic UFO will fire lasers from the outer rim of the ship, once in end it will fire lasers from the central part of the ship. Regular gunfire surrounds the ship whilst traversing over and under Gigantic UFO. The gate which constantly opens/closes would release invaders from within while also attempting to scoop up the player with a tractor beam.

In the 3D levels, the appearance of Gigantic UFO is somewhat the same, but the laser cannons are rearranged and can be seen from the underside while regular gunfire is obscured. Gigantic UFO will also tend to turn sideways when flying and then suddenly turning opposite to fire its four outer laser cannons.

In the DLC level, "Nonstop Mediated Decay", Gigantic UFO will not release any invaders at all and do its usual 2D attack pattern.

Environment[]

The boss appears in a void with a planet-like grid. Despite this, it makes up the majority of the stage.

Attacks[]

  • The player starts in the bottom right corner, and moves under the UFO
  • The player is attacked by the destructable turrets on its underside.
  • The player grazes the left side of the UFO, in which an invaders spawner spews out enemies.
  • The player arrives above the UFO, being attacked by Satoru-UFO.
  • The player repeats the 3rd phase, except on the right side.
  • The player arrives on the bottom, where an opening summons many invaders, lined with 4 laser turrets.
  • The opening creates a tractor beam that attempts to suck in the player. Through this, the UFO itself can be attacked at its weak point.

Trivia[]

  • In Bonus 3-6 "Nonstop Mediated Decay", when fighting Gigantic UFO, the BGM/OST "Mutation 3" (AKA "Mutation Evolution" in the first original soundtrack) is not heard throughout the boss fight, and instead uses a loop of "Growing Menace", since the ship is all by itself with no invaders and UFOs.
    • In addition to Gigantic UFO being in "Nonstop Mediated Decay", Gigantic UFO immediately attacks the player without introducing itself alike to Stage 3-3 "Self Organization."
